Summer 2018 my immediate family and I went on a cruise along with my godparents and cousins. We went on the Carnival Victory; this was my second time on a cruise and my cousins’ first time so I knew what to expect. We flew to Miami, Florida, and then the next day boarded the ship. Check-in is like at an airport. Our ship tour consisted of stops in  Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Island, Cozumel. Mexico, and then back to Miami.

Once everyone boarded, we waited on the main deck for the welcome aboard party, followed by an exploration of the ship and lunch. Once the horn sounded, it was time to set sail. Many people think you can a ship move but unless you stay still it’s hardly noticeable.. The cool thing about cruises is that you meet people from all over the U.S and out of the country! The staff is so kind and welcoming, the house keepers even remember your name (considering there are so many people aboard it surprised me).

My dad says going on a cruise is a real vacation. Why? Well because everything is provided for you, you don’t have to worry about looking for somewhere to eat, getting an uber, etc. They have lots to do from shows, movies under the stars, mini golf, casinos, adult only relaxing area, karaoke, comedy shows and so much more. The ship is so big that everyone in the family gets lost; the good thing is that everyone has a personalized card key to get in the room.

Some of my favorite things about cruises are waking up one day in the middle of the ocean; I think it’s so relaxing. It really makes you think wow I’m really this small thing compared to this big earth. My second favorite part is waking up to a new island to go explore. My third favorite thing is the feeling of FREEDOM! I like spending time with myself so I find a lot of the times I just like to find a quiet place to sit, grab a bite to eat and enjoy life.

I would totally recommend going on a cruise for so many reasons. Number one, you don’t have to worry about planning because a vacation cruise is all- inclusive. The second reason is the variety of food–a pizza station and ice cream machine is open 24 hours. Another great reason are the endless activities onboard. There are so many activities that sometimes it’s hard to pick what to do. You can even get breakfast the bed with an ocean view every morning; just tell your cabin steward the night before. Finally, it can be a time to disconnect (if you’d like to) from social media and your phone, it’s a time for relaxation so take advantage. The cruise I went on lasted seven days with stops at three different locations, plus some days at sea.
