I believe that the ocean can cure any bad mood. There’s something about the sound of the waves, the taste of the salt-water, and the vastness of it that is so calming. It’s never-ending. Its enormity makes anything seem possible.

The beauty of Laguna Beach, one of the most sun-splashed parts of California.

I am very blessed to have a lot of family in one of the most beautiful spots in all of California right on the ocean. Laguna Beach. This little town of 23,000 is nestled right on the ocean in between Los Angeles and San Diego. I grew up visiting my family here and I fell in love with it quickly. I was always in the ocean and it was a constant fight to get me out. If I wasn’t in the water, I was on my aunts sail boat on the water. Either way, I was happy.

One of the beautiful sunsets that occurs every night in Laguna. The town built many look-out points just for the purpose of watching the sunset.

My most recent trip to Laguna Beach was almost three years ago, but I can’t wait to go back this summer. This time, for much longer. However, my trip three years ago is still a memory fresh in my mind’s eye.

Laguna’s main beach.

I remember arriving at Laguna Beach. I felt like I was on some Greek Island. It was so beautiful. My aunt’s house is a block away from the beach and you can hear the waves from her backyard. I spent most of my time in the water snorkeling, surfing, and paddle boarding. My first day my brother, aunt, and I went snorkeling. Because of where Laguna Beach is located you can just swim out 10 or 15 feet and see anything from small tropical fish to sea turtles and manta rays.

I also grew up learning how to sail in Laguna. My aunt, who has lived most of her life in Laguna Beach, is a sailer. She charters trips to and from a small Island off the coast of Laguna called Catalina Island. She is also the captain of one of the only all female sailboat racing teams. When she’s not chartering or racing, she is sailing around the world, raising awareness for ocean conservation in third world countries. She is truly an inspiration to me.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the sunshine state of California, I highly suggest going to Laguna Beach. It’s beauty, serenity, and sense of community doesn’t begin to compare to the bustling noise of Los Angeles or the plastic-like fakeness of Palm Springs.
