Our Lady Lancers represented St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy with humility & grace during the championship rounds. What a great weekend to be a Lancer!

It proved to be all Lancers at the WIAA State Tennis Meet as Megan Setter and Giana Apostoli became doubles state champions and Olivia Czerwonka placed second in singles.

After an undefeated season together, Megan won her second state championship as she won doubles last year with Kaitlyn Kalinka. In fact, she hasn’t lost a match since the last match of her sophomore year!

“It’s a great feeling to be back to back champion, I’ve put in a lot of time to get where I am,” said Megan Setter after winning her second consecutive championship.

Her partner Giana has won her first championship after placing 5th last year in singles. “I’m really happy with how this season went, and being able to close our high school tennis career as we did will be a memory I will hold for a long time,” said Giana after winning the title. Megan and Giana beat The Prairie School in the championship match, 6-1, 6-0.

Also undefeated this season until her last match was Olivia Czerwonka who placed second in this weekend’s tournament in Madison. “My senior tennis season was the best out of the four years and meant the most to me because of the team, coaches, and parents. They all provided continuous support throughout the whole season and was there for me despite the outcome. I think that was the best part of it all; the immense support and love we shared as a family,” said Oliva.

Olivia made it into the championship match and battled in a tough loss to Mia Larrain of Newman Catholic 5-7 2-6.

The tennis team was very supportive of each other throughout the whole season and are ecstatic with the result. Laura Steiner, a member of the varsity tennis team at #2 doubles attended the tournament to root on her teammates. She said: “I had faith that they would all perform to the best of their ability and succeed, but it was amazing to watch them achieve their goals.”

Congratulations Lady Lancers to a success-filled season!
